St John’s Nursing Home is a well-established 58-bed nursing home located in a quiet residential area in South Croydon, Surrey.

Our aim is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for residents, with a happy and homely atmosphere.

Our care workers are committed to providing each resident with an individual care plan to suit their specific needs. We are also very committed to providing a range of activities and outings for clients to stimulate both the mind and body.

Our beautiful home from home is set on 3 floors, with a large landscaped garden.

We pride ourselves on our nutritious home-cooked meals which can either be enjoyed in the grand ground floor dining room, in the patio lounge or in the privacy of our residents’ own rooms. Our tasty menu, which is created by our own chef, is very varied and caters for all tastes and cultures.

Our passion at St John’s Nursing Home is to allow our residents the choice of how to live their lives. We treat everyone as individuals and focus on their individual needs. Our philosophy is to build long-term relationships based on happiness, openness and respect.

Friends and families are always welcome to visit and participate in any of the activities that are delivered by our activity coordinator.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to St John’s Nursing Home.

Who we care for:

We provide 24 hour care offering nursing, residential, dementia care, palliative, Parkinson’s and convalescence care on either a permanent or respite basis.

All aspects of care for each resident are fully personalised to their needs, preferences and wishes which means that every person receives unique, bespoke care from our dedicated and professional staff.

Our menu:

Good food plays a big part of life here at St John’s. We understand that the key to enjoyable cuisine for our residents is to get to know their preferences.

All our dishes are made using fresh ingredients and we can cater for all dietary and cultural requirements.

Our resident chef likes to be visible during meal times to receive feedback and ideas for future menus.

He regularly introduces recipes from all over the world, taking into consideration the nutritional and health values of the meals we serve.

Our menus are aimed at being intriguing and stimulating to encourage residents’ appetites – although we also provide more familiar comfort food choices so that all tastes are catered for.

There are always a range of alternatives on our menu and snacks are available throughout the day. We also enjoy celebrating our residents’ birthdays with personalised birthday cakes.

Activities for residents:

We provide a variety of daily activities either as a group or on a one to one basis, tailored to our residents’ needs and interests.

Kreena is our dedicated activities coordinator, who organises a varied programme of hobbies, pastimes and physical activities for our residents to enjoy.

In a typical week at St John’s, we like to include:

  • Physical activities – such as bowling, balloon badminton and basketball
  • Light exercise sessions – such as stretches, arm and leg movement and armchair exercises
  • Reminiscence days – including looking through old pictures, photos and conversations going back in time
  • Arts and crafts sessions, which we incorporate with either seasonal or special days
  • Quizzes
  • Regular sing-alongs
  • Celebrations of special days throughout the year; for example doughnut day, international dot day and letter writing day

We also have a beautiful landscaped, secure garden for our residents to enjoy.

Covid safety:

We are now happy to announce that we are open to new admissions. We have a strict programme of infection control measures to safeguard our residents, staff and all healthcare workers.

Our residents are tested monthly with the PCR test and staff also complete a weekly PCR test as well as two lateral flow tests.

Any professional visitors are asked to provide evidence of a negative test and visitors are also asked to do a lateral flow test, all in accordance with the latest government guidance.

Please contact our manager to arrange a virtual tour.

Resident activities:

Although we continue to offer a varied programme of daily activities for our residents, we have sadly had to curtail some activities due to Covid-19, such as:

  • Visits to our home by a live entertainer
  • Seaside trips during the summer months and garden centre trips
  • Lunch out at a restaurant
  • Visits every second Sunday from our local church, St Emmanuel
  • A weekly visit from a pet therapy dog

The continued welfare of our residents remains of paramount importance but we do hope to resume our programme of day trips and also welcome back guest entertainers to our home in the not too distant future.
